I'm Thomas Breach, it's a pleasure to meet you! I got my start as a play-by-play commentator in the fall of 2014 as a junior at Wheaton Area High School. My school was interested in streaming our athletic events, and I was their choice to provide the play-by-play. Two years of covering Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Athletics later, I began my three-year schooling at St. Cloud State University. While at SCSU, I ascended to the Sports Director position at KVSC 88.1 FM, the award-winning full-student ran radio station on the east end of campus. I had the honor of serving as the sole Radio Voice of St. Cloud State Baseball all three years, along with two years as the Voice of St. Cloud State Volleyball and Men's Basketball.
In the spring of 2019, I was thrilled to learn that I had been one of just six student broadcasters nationwide to be recognized by the Broadcast Education Association at their Festival of Media Arts. Having earned an Award of Excellence for my call of SCSU Volleyball's exhilarating October upset of nationally-ranked Southwest Minnesota State, it was a further honor to learn I was the sole Volleyball commentator to receive an award.
Following my second year of college, I began a two-season stint as the Radio Voice of the Waterloo Bucks. During my two years in the Northwoods League with the Bucks, I received the opportunity to call two full 72-game seasons, along with the honor of calling the 2019 Northwoods League All-Star Game held in Waterloo.
Once Waterloo's season came to an end in August of 2019, I received an opportunity to join the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Minnesota Twins Class A Affiliate) as a play-by-play commentator to conclude their regular season. The transition from collegiate to affiliated baseball was seamless, furthering my confidence in my ability to call baseball at the professional level.
Following a 2020 season lost to the COVID-19 pandemic, I have returned to St. Cloud and am presently working on a Master's of Science in Sports Management while serving as SCSU's Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant. I am the primary Sports Information Contact for St. Cloud State's NCAA DI Women's Hockey and NCAA DII Baseball, Men's Soccer and Women's Track and Field, filling a wide variety of content production roles and responsibilities while again working with the incredible people I had the opportunity to build relationships with during my undergrad.
Throughout my career working as a play-by-play commentator, I have crafted exceptional writing skills. I own extensive experience penning game and series previews and recaps, individual features and analytical pieces.
While at KVSC, I gained substantial experience in audio production. As the majority of our NCAA-DII sports were broadcasted on an online audio feed, I fully produced our entire St. Cloud State Baseball games by crafting promotions, highlights, intros, sounders and images.
As the Athletic Communications GA with St. Cloud State, I have greatly expanded my graphic design, video production, photography and social media coordination skills. I serve as one of the two primary graphic design specialists within the SCSU Athletics Department, working closely with a variety of departments in order to provide outstanding coverage of all our sponsored programs.
Outside of the press box, you can find me on the nearest fairway (or rough, depending on the day) playing decidedly average golf, diving into my Pearls Before Swine and Foxtrot treasuries, or getting lost in whichever book has reached the top of my reading list!
